# Trial

> Request a free Zamp API trial key and start testing sales tax calculations in a sandbox environment.

The Zamp API offers a free trial (sandbox) environment so developers can explore and test the API before going live. Request access below and we'll email a trial API key to your business address.

  Trial data is rate-limited and automatically deleted after 30 days. When your trial key is issued, Zamp automatically configures the test environment to include all 47 remote seller state registrations.

## Step 1: Request your API key

Fill out the form below with your business email. Once you submit, we'll email your trial API key to that address.

## Step 2: Check your email

Your trial API key arrives by email at the address you provided.

* The key is valid for 30 days.
* All test-environment data is automatically deleted after 30 days.
* Keep your key safe, and request a new one if you suspect it has been compromised.

## Step 3: Authenticate and begin testing

Add your key to the `Authorization` header to authenticate requests — see [Authentication](/guides/authentication) for details.

Once you're authenticated, head to the [Calculations](/api-reference/calculations) endpoint to run your first tax calculation.
